School's Work

Since the creation of the first Music National Curriculum in 1992 folk music and the music of the British Isles has been an integral part of the Music National Curriculum.  Each of the members of Spinndrift are happy to give one on one tuition in their respective instruments.  They are also able to give workshops on what makes folk music different from other genres of music.

For three years now Spinndrift have taken part in Elmfield School's Folk Week, at which they perform a concert, ceilidh and give one on one tuition to students at the School.  They have also performed at Devon Steiner School and ran workshops throughout the day for various music classes.  As part of their degree program they have all taken and passed Newcastle University's teaching skills module.

The members of Spinndrift all hold enhanced CRB disclosure and can offer workshops or tuition in: melodeon, fiddle, oboe, flute, whistle, cello, voice, storytelling, shadow play, junk puppets, morris dance, molly dance, broom dance, ceilidh dancing, ensemble and group work and choir/group and harmony singing.  Spinndrift are happy to run workshops for children or adults for people of all abilities.

Spinndrift also perform a children's show, a 20 minute shadow play.

Spinndrift are currently working on a new children's show based around musical sound effects and theatre devices which involves even more audience participation.  There are also a set of workshops that can be run alongside this show, in preparation for it.

Three members of Spinndrift also perform a 20 minute story which is suitable for children and adults.
